Tibetan Mastiff Overview

The Tibetan Mastiff breed was developed when they were isolated in the Himalayan Mountains in Tibet. They were used to guard property. They were taught to be aggressive so they could protect families. They came out of isolation in the 1800’s when Queen Victoria was given one. The British then began to breed them. It was documented that this breed came to America in the late 1970’s. This breed was recognized by the AKC in 2006 and grouped as Working.
