Chihuahua Breed Overview

Want to bring home an adorable Chihuahua puppy for sale? You’ve come to the right place. At Keystone Puppies, our mission is to help Chihuahua puppies find their forever homes. In addition to Chihuahuas, we work with a range of other breeds — including Chi-Poos, Chorkies, Fox Terriers, and more! All our puppies are bred with the highest standards of ethical integrity — free of common genetic defects that impact less responsible breeders — and are raised in happy homes where they’re treated like part of the family before becoming part of yours!

Chihuahuas are one of the most beloved and recognizable breeds in the world. Originating from Mexico’s Chihuahua State, the breed goes back centuries, but the iconic little dog didn’t gain international attention until the early 20th century.

Believed to be descendants of an ancient breed dating to the times of Mayan and Aztec civilizations, they’ve been good luck charms to people across many cultures. Chihuahuas are highly intelligent with strong personalities, making them excellent companions for people who love their tiny stature and big-dog attitude.

Today, modern Chihuahuas are still as fiercely loyal to their owners as they were when they first appeared on the scene. It’s no surprise that these spunky pups continue to be one of the most beloved breeds around!

Chihuahua Puppies Temperament

Chihuahuas make delightful and loyal companions for those who are seeking an attentive and loving pet. Although their size often elicits reactions of surprise, Chihuahuas’ personalities far exceed their physical stature. These small dogs are full of big energy and surprisingly live to please their owners. Chihuahua puppies can grow up to be confident yet protective; they will watch over what is theirs with dedication and fervor.

The Chihuahua breed is particularly friendly when properly socialized, but can remain aloof or even shy if not introduced to a range of environments, people, and situations at a young age. With proper care and gentle training, your four-legged friend can prove entertaining to the entire family while providing unwavering unconditional love.

Chihuahua Puppy Health Considerations

Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 13-16 years — our Chihuahuas for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Chihuahua puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones.

Chihuahua puppies are at a somewhat elevated risk for developing the following conditions:

  • Dental Problems
  • Eye Problems
  • Respiratory Infections
  • Bone Breaks
  • Hip Dysplasia

Some common health concerns for these small pooches include dental problems such as decaying teeth, eye problems due to their large eyes, and prone to respiratory infections caused by their snub noses.

Unfortunately, Chihuahuas can also suffer from bone breaks and hip dysplasia. Exercise caution during outdoor activities like running or jumping off furniture because these potty-sized puppies are prone to injury due to their diminutive size.

With some basic knowledge of the breed’s health concerns, you can be sure to give your Chihuahua the best possible chance at a long and healthy life. Finding a Chihuahua puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. At Keystone Puppies, we work exclusively with experienced breeders who are committed to producing healthy & happy pups. Chihuahua Puppy Coat & Coat Care

Chihuahuas are popular pets because of their endearing personalities and silly antics, but they have special needs that pet owners need to be aware of. One of these particular needs is their coat. Chihuahua coats often consist of fine, soft fur close to their body and thickening around the neck area. This can require extra care when it comes to keeping them looking good!

Regular brushing with a de-shedding tool will help keep your Chihuahua healthy and happy with a smooth and shiny coat. Additionally, regular bathing every few weeks with a quality shampoo will help remove dirt and dander from the fur, leaving your pup clean, comfortable, and looking great!

Taking the time to properly care for your Chihuahua’s coat will ensure their health as well as provide lasting satisfaction for both pet and owner alike.
