These small Spaniels started showing up in paintings way back when, but it wasn’t until 17th century England where they became very popular among ladies at court. It was when King Charles II began owning them, that their popularity reached new heights among aristocrats. However, no standards existed, so the puppies often varied in size and type.
Breeders in the mid 1800s began changing the dogs’ characteristics, and it became harder to find the sweet-faced Spaniels shown in paintings. In the 1920’s, a new generation of dog lovers dedicated themselves to preserving the original traits of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies through ethical breeding programs.
Like many other European canines, these puppies had a hard time during World War II and were almost extinct by 1945. However, dedicated breeders located just six dogs and began rebuilding the breed’s population.
Today, the Cavaliers have fully rebounded and become a favorite household pet. They were officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1995 as a part of the Toy Group.

While King Charles Spaniels love their owners, these lovable pups are also happy to cuddle with anyone in the family or even first-time visitors. They are extremely even-tempered and get along well with other dogs, pets, and kids.
Because of their Spaniel heritage, they love to run, chase, and wander so it is important to ensure they get daily exercise, so they stay happy and calm. We recommend two daily walks and a fenced in yard to prevent them from becoming bored. You’ll find these pups are unable to resist chasing squirrels, birds, and other small animals so make sure you keep them leashed at all times
Overall, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies for sale make wonderful pets for families or individuals who are looking for a laid-back, affectionate companion.

What You Should Know About Spaniel Coat Care
Regardless of color, all these beautiful dogs will have shiny, silky coats of moderate length. These coats are usually straight, but some have a slight wave. Although these lap dogs often grow long feathering on their ears, legs, and tail in adulthood, breed standards do not recommend trimming.
You should brush your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy’s coat daily to prevent matting and tangles. Pay special attention to the lustrous hair on their long ears and clean the inside of the ears weekly with a clean, damp cloth to prevent infections. Use another clean, damp cloth to remove discharge around the inner eye. You do not need to bathe your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel often, only as needed.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Reviews

Getting Frankie (my forever best friend) was the BEST decision of my life. I had never had a cavalier before, but I swear I landed the best one out there. Frankie is sooooo sweet- she is a live teddy bear. She rarely barks, she’s loving, she is so cute, and is literally the best thing that’s happened to me. The process getting her was so smooth and couldn’t have been more worth it.
